Would a skylight work for you?

Many people are cautious about installing a skylight because they can potentially leak, but when installed properly they will pose no issue. If you ever notice water around a skylight it is more likely condensation, which is normal for all windows. If your home is lacking natural light, skylights are an effective way to add that element – especially in rooms where having a window on the wall wouldn’t be feasible.

However, in rooms where there is a concentration of heat or humid air in a home in winter, there will be increased heat loss and more condensation which can cause water dripping, in turn, this could result in wall damage – so it is important to consider this before deciding where to place your skylight.

Below we will answer the most important and frequently asked questions regarding galvanised roofing sheets.

Are galvanised roofing sheets heavy duty?

These roofing sheets are lightweight to support (0.5mm in thickness), however are very heavy duty for purpose. Galvanised roofing is a cost effective and robust option for roofing or cladding.

Corrugated metal roofing has an excellent lifespan of 20+ years and as an extra benefit, it is extremely quick to install whether using it as a brand-new roof or as cladding over an existing roof.

Does the profile of the sheet matter?

The corrugations of the roofing allows both rain and snow to naturally move off the roof which means less risk of pools of water forming, which can lead to leaking and other issues. Corrugated metal roofing is also far better at withstanding harsh weather conditions in comparison to other materials. If you live in an area, which has frequent storms or hail you should consider switching to a corrugated metal roof for extra peace of mind.

The sheets are available in two different widths, however the profile of the sheet is the same (corrugations at 3inches from top to top).

Can I use galvanised roofing on different structures?

Recently galvanised roofing is a very popular option for carports and lean to pergolas, as a temporary or permanent solution, while giving the structure a traditional look.

Galvanised roofing only requires minimum maintenance; this has led to them being widely adapted as roofing solutions for livestock and farm owners as well as widespread use in construction and commercial industries.

Can you paint galvanised roofing?

Yes! Painting roofing sheets can be a daunting task, the best thing to use is acrylic latex paint. We recommend using a metal primer before and a top coat to seal the layers together. The weather is important, make sure you are applying in mild/ dry weather for best results!

Do I need underlay for galvanised roofing?

To keep the sheets protected and to create a safer barrier we advise to use a felt underlay under the timber batons.

The “outdoor structures” that are taking over pub carparks and beer gardens this Spring.

It’s here, finally the day we have all been waiting for, after a long period of closure due to Covid-19 parts of the leisure industry are finally permitted to reopen their doors providing they follow government guidelines.

Many pubs and restaurants have been getting creative, adapting their outdoor space in a bid to make their returning visitors a bit more comfortable whilst they brave the elements to enjoy their first bit of freedom this year! It’s certainly been a long time coming.

But what are the rules for outdoor structures?

The good news is that roofs ARE allowed as long as at least 50% of the area of the walls are left open at all times when in use.

There’s no surprise to see that gazebos and pergolas of all shapes and sizes have been popping up in beer gardens up and down the country ahead of today’s grand reopening’s.

What are the differences between the two?

Gazebos are a great solution, not only do they look really impressive but they are so versatile and can be fitted to any kind of ground weather it be grass, a patio or bedded into concrete for a solid weather proof structure. As most gazebos benefit from a solid roof landlords can be sure their visitors will remain dry when those April showers fall. Electric patio heaters can also be fixed to the beams creating a cosy space that will be warm, cosy and inviting all year round.

Multiple smaller free-standing gazebos make for a cosy area and will help with social distancing if the premises are lucky enough to have the space to be able to seat 6 people per gazebo.

A gazebo is probably as close as you can get to being “indoors” without actually being inside.

Pergola:
